VAG Emergency Device – Emergency Start & IMMO OFF Tool for VAG Bosch ECU (EDC16/EDC17, MED9/MED17)

The VAG Emergency Device is a highly specialized tool engineered for emergency vehicle starts on VAG-group cars equipped with Bosch Engine Control Units. Designed for automotive locksmiths, ECU technicians, and diagnostic professionals, this device enables IMMO OFF operations on EDC16, EDC17, MED16, MED17, and related Bosch ECU types. With its fast-acting process and universal connection system, it allows you to start a vehicle even without a transponder key—using only a mechanical blade.

This device is essential for handling immobilizer issues, all-keys-lost scenarios, and emergency recovery on supported Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, and Skoda models manufactured up to 2015 (IMMO III / IMMO IV, non-MQB / non-BCM2 vehicles).

What’s Included

The VAG Emergency Device package includes:

  • Main Emergency Start Unit

  • Complete Cable Set, including:

    • CAN H and CAN L connection cables

    • OBD interface cable

    • Battery positive/negative terminals

    • Needle-type clamps for piercing CAN lines where necessary

  • Toggle switches (not required for operation; positions do not affect the procedure)

This modular cable set allows flexible connection to the vehicle’s CAN system directly inside the engine bay or wherever CAN H, CAN L, and power are accessible.

How the Device Works

To use the VAG Emergency Device, simply locate the vehicle’s CAN H and CAN L wires—typically orange/black (CAN H) and orange/brown (CAN L). Then follow the steps below:

  1. Connect the cable set to:

    • CAN H

    • CAN L

    • 12V+

    • Ground

  2. Plug the device into the OBD port provided on the cable set.

  3. Upon connection, the device emits one confirmation beep.

  4. The LED begins fast green blinking (approx. three times per second) as the IMMO OFF procedure starts.

  5. When the process is complete, you’ll hear two short beeps and the LED will switch to slow green blinking, indicating the emergency start function is enabled.

  6. The vehicle can now be started without a transponder, using only a mechanical key blade.

Important: Keep the key or key blade in the ignition during the entire operation to maintain power to the CAN network.

Error Indications

  • Slow red blinking: ECU cannot be accessed. The unit may contain aftermarket tuning or be digitally locked by a tuner.

  • Audi

  • Volkswagen

  • Skoda

  • Seat
